My Writing

The article said archaeologists found new facts about R. robustus. Before these facts were discovered, some researchers thought R. robustus was an active hunter of dinosaurs. However, some facts suggest it could be a scavenger.

First, the writer claims that it R. robustus was too small to hunt big size dinosaurs, like psittacosaurs which was almost two meters tall when fully grown. On the other hand, the lecturer said R. robustus is ...

The writer said that the legs of R. robustus were more suited for scavenging than hunting because it had short legs and its legs were positioned to the side, not underneath. The lecturer said it could run up to almost 15km/h and this speed is fast enough to catch other dinosaurs.

Lastly, the writer said the fact that the nones of the psittacosaur inside R. robustus stomach do not have teeth marks wich usually appeared when animals are eaten by other animals. Because of this fact, the writer asserted R. robustus would hunt unguarded dinosaur nests and usually swallow an egg with the small psttacosaur still inside the eggshell. At the same time, the lecturer said R. robustus had a powerful jaw and its bak teeth are developed to chew. For this reason, R. robustus could swallow big pieces of other animals.

Example

The lecture completely refutes the reading passage. The professor use the following points to indicate that R.robustus could have been actively hunting baby psittacosaur and similar sized baby dinosaurs.

First, although R. robustus was small, it was much bigger than baby psittacosaurs dinosaur, more than twice in size. This means R. robustus was big enough to hunt baby psittacosaurs.

Second, even though R. robustus had short legs and they were positioned somewhat to the side, these features are not sufficient indications that R. robustus could not run as fast enough to be successful predator. The professor pointed out that Tasmanian Devil, a morden-day successful predator whose legs share similar "disadvantages", can run as fast as 50km/h and is an active and very successful hunter todya. So its possible R. robustus could run just as fast and therefore be as successful in hunting.

Last but not the least, lack of teeth marks on the dinosaur bones is not enough evidence to support conclusion that the dinosaur was not actively hunted. Studies of fossil records show that though R. robustus had powerful jaws but also, it did not use its back-teeth for chewing because its back teeth had no wear and tear. So we can also guess that R. robustus could had swallowed the baby dinosaur whole and therefore not leaving any teeth marks.

My Writing 2

The writer and the lecturer talked about Repenomamus robustus(R. robustus) which was known as an active dinosaur hunter. The writer argued that R. robustus was a scavenger, and the lecturer disagreed with the writer's argument.

First of all, the writer said that R. robustus was too small to hunt psittacosaurs, which grew nearly 2 meters, or other similar dinosaurs. However, the lecturer explained that R. robustus was considerably big as a hunter and could hunt baby dinosaurs or some smaller dinosaurs.

Second, the writer mentioned that the legs that R. robustus had were short and positioned to the side. This position of the legs made it hard to chase prey, so the writer claimed that this is one of the pieces of evidence that R. robustus was a scavenger. On the other hand, the lecturer disagreed with the writer's example. She said that the Tasmanian devil has the same leg position as R. robustus, but it can run 15km/h, even though it has short legs. As a result, R. robustus can run fast enough to chase prey.

Lastly, the writer said scholars did not find the teeth marks on the bones that were inside the R. robustus stomach. It suggested that R. robustus just scavenged psittacosaurs eggs and swallowed them. Nevertheless, the lecturer explained that R. robustus has powerful jaws, but it was not for chewing. The reason that the bones inside R. robustus stomach didn't have marks is that R. robustus just swallowed whole prey or in pieces.

Feedback

  • If it is talking about actions -> use past tense
  • If it is talking about bones or structures or something we can still check -> could be fact
