Would	- only used for actions or situations that were repeated many times - only used with active verbs - not use to talk about single actions in the past
Used to	- used for any action or situation that continued for a preiod of time in the past, including repeated actions or situations - used with active and stative verbs - not use to talk about single actions in the past

 

Form

• Subject + used to / would + base form of verb
  • make affirmative sentences
• Subject + didn't use to / would not + base form of verb
  • make negative sentence
• Did / Would suject use to base form of verb / base form of verb
  • make question sentence

Examples

• Katie's family would take summer vacations to Mexico every year.
• I used to drive three hours to get to work yesterday because fo the traffic.
• Tom used to give me little presents as a surprise.
• The student representatives would speak three times last week, but still no decision has been made.
