[TOEFL/Writing] Question 1 : 3 theories about the usage of the "great houses"

The writer and lecturer talked about Chaco "great houses" in New Mexico. The writer introduced 3 theories about the usage of the "great houses" and the lecturer argued against the theories.

The first thory which the writer mentioned is that the "great houses" were residential. They are similar to apartment buildings. However, the lecturer argued the inside of the "great houses" don't seem like residences. If a lot of people lived there, this building should have fireplaces in each room, yet it had only a few fireplaces.

The second theory about which the writer talked is that these structures were kinds of warehouses to store food supplies. The size of the structures were suitable to store food for a long period. However, the lecturer said they had no evidence of this theory. ...

The last theory of the writer could have been that the purpose of the "great houses" is ceremonial. In one house, archaeologists found some evidence of ceremonies recorded in other Native American cultures. On the other hand, the lecturer said this theory is not-well supported. The large quantities of broken pots were just regular trash.
